ASHFIELD — Residents are coming together to organize a charity concert to benefit the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

The concert will be held on Sunday, June 15, at 6 p.m. at Ashfield Town Hall at 412 Main St. Tickets are available in exchange for a donation that will support the ACLU as it files a series of lawsuits against the Trump administration.

“As more and more of our civil rights, including due process, freedom of speech, freedom of the press and a myriad of anti-discrimination protections are being threatened, we must turn again and again to one of our first and most formidable lines of protection: the American Civil Liberties Union,” wrote Alex Osterman, a member of the group organizing the benefit concert.

Carol Rose, executive director of the ACLU of Massachusetts, said the Massachusetts chapter works to support the work of the national organization, in addition to supporting Massachusetts residents who have faced challenges to their rights and liberties. She added that since President Donald Trump began his second term, the ACLU has filed 53 lawsuits against his administration, supported in part by the generosity of community donors.

“For rights to be real, ordinary people must join together in defense of liberty,” Rose wrote in a statement.

The concert is expected to last for two hours. Performers include Jay Mankita, Bob Markey and Jim Matus, Sisters of the Circle, Peter Siegel, Mica Farias Gomez and Manu Uriona, and Windborne.

“All are donating their performances in support of the ACLU to make this a night of great music celebrating civil rights and community,” Osterman said.

Space is limited. Tickets can be reserved in advance at Ashfield Hardware or by calling 617-417-3777. Tickets can also be acquired at the door with proof of a donation of at least $15, but donors are encouraged to give as much as they can. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
