Bulletin Board: Playoffs begin in Franklin Tech Girls Summer Basketball League

The playoffs of the Franklin Tech Girls Summer Basketball League got underway on Tuesday, with Mahar taking down Athol, 44-8, behind 13 points from Jaya Eady, 12 points from Taylor Paluk, seven points from Aledine Almeida, six points from Zoe Woodard and two points from Kaylee Mercier, Haylee Paluk and Stasi Sanders.
Sadie Wilcox had all eight points for the Bears.
Pioneer 30, Hopkins 20 — Maggie Tsipenyuk tallied 15 points, Kyler McClelland and Deveney Pillsbury each scored four points, Jaelyn Boliski recorded three points while Avalynn Hall and Kiara Gruszkowski each had two points in the Panthers’ triumph over Hopkins Tuesday.
Olivia Earle recorded eight points, Layney Crutch scored six points, Vivian Higuera scored four points and Morgan Augustin added two points in the loss.
Ware 23, Franklin Tech 19 — Reese McKeever finished with 12 points, Gaby Kachinga scored four points while Lucy Hebert and Gloria Kotaj each added two points in Ware’s victory Tuesday.
Brayleigh Burgh finished with 10 points, Madyson Lynde scored three points, Alison George and Sophia Jagodzinski each tallied two points and Giah Koshinsky made a free throw for the Eagles.
Keene 57, Greenfield 13 — Harper Zalaski recorded 22 points, Payton Margaitis scored 16 points and Lena Weigers added eight points in the Blackbirds’ victory over the Wave Tuesday.
Gloria McDonald finished with eight points, Sofia Ruggeri scored three points and Kayden Viencek added two points for Greenfield.

DRIVE League
Garrett Cote dropped 31 points while Brayden Thayer added 30 points as Crossover-Llewelyn took down Futures Unlimited, 76-62, in a Men’s League semifinal contest in the DRIVE League Monday at Greenfield High School.
Jeric Smith scored 26 points and Matt Petro added 20 points in the loss.
Team No Name will meet Crossover-Llewelyn in the championship game after taking down Zone 6, 75-72, in overtime on Monday. Chris Brown scored 25 points and Brendan Rios added 19 points in the win while Deontae Charles tallied 22 points and Collin Boudreau scored 11 points in the loss.
In boys’ varsity action of the DRIVE League at Greenfield High School on Monday, Max Millette scored 29 points and Rowan Modestow chipped in 17 points in Frontier’s 90-75 victory over Keene. Alex Holmes scored 25 points and Tyrese Stanley added 14 points for the Blackbirds.
After, Athol took down Turners Falls, 81-28, behind 22 points from Karim Thompson and 20 points from Dom St. Andre. Brody Girard scored seven point and Jackson Cogswell added six points for the Thunder.
Adult softballCommon Ground Fitness 18, Gremlins 2 — Tyler Charbenou hit three home runs, doubled and drove in seven, Joe Geary had four hits including two doubles and drove in two, Matt Welcome doubled three times and singled while Amanda Sanderson had three hits including a double in Common Ground Fitness’ win Tuesday.
Jason Bassett had the lone hit for the Gremlins.
Liberty Tax Sharks 17, Farmers United 6 — Che Christi doubled, tripled, homered and drove in five, Trevor Thomas singled, doubled and tripled, Ainslee Flynn recorded a single, a double and drove in two while Matt Gibson had four hits including a double in the Sharks’ victory Tuesday.
Logan Ahearn doubled twice and drove in two, Carin Freeman and Michael Dobias both singled and doubled while Kyle Wilder added two hits in the loss.

• Elaine Goodhind shot a 40 and Chris Eugin carded a 41 to lead the Patty Berg Flight in the 9 Hole Women’s League at Country Club of Greenfield Tuesday.
Lora Gross (43) and Jane Smith (43) led the Nancy Lopez Flight, Deb Van Dale (49) took the Joanna Carner Flight, Karen Zerneri (47), Sally Bernard (48) and Sandy Ruggeri (48) topped the Lorena Ochoa Flight, Ann Lyman (50) and Emily Keyser (52) led the Annika Sorenstom Flight while Brenda Dedinas (54) and Sharon Meade (54) tied for first in the Michelle Wie Flight.
• Terry Boyce (-3) and Nancy Robie (E) led Flight One in a Best 9 of 18 contest in the 18 Hole Women’s League at CCG on Tuesday.
Barb Killeen (-11), Danica Hochstetler (-8) and Ann McHugh (-8) shot the low net scores.
In Flight Two, Gail Miller (3) and Lane Kelly (6) had the top gross scores while Irene McDonald (-10) and Julie Bailey (-6) had the low net scores. In the Nine Hole Flight Ellen Bitzer (5) and June Heideman (5) tied for first while Sue McDonald (-2) and Christine Kuzmeskus (-2) carded the low net scores.
RunningThe 44th Montague Mug Race is right around the corner, with signups ongoing for the race which is scheduled for Aug. 16.
The race is 5.5 miles with a 2 mile mini run/walk option as well. The race begins at Montague Center Common at 8:30 a.m. with the 2 mile race kicking off at 8:35 a.m. Both races finish at the ball field on Station Street. All proceeds from the race benefit the Montague Fire Association and Montague Church. Pewter Mugs are awarded to the top male and female finisher.
