Bulletin Board: Greenfield Knights of Columbus Hoop Shoot set for Saturday

The annual Greenfield Knights of Columbus Hoop Shoot will be held on Saturday at Franklin County’s YMCA in Greenfield. 

The event is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., with registration getting underway at 2:30 p.m. The hoop shoot is open to all boys and girls ages 9-14 who live in Franklin County. 

Turners Falls Suburban

JJ Bones scored a team-high 17 points on 5-for-8 shooting, and Turners Falls edged South Hadley, 47-45, in a grades 5 and 6 boys basketball Suburban League contest on Saturday in South Hadley.

Tyreek Rivera also had a great game with 15 points while going 7-for-9 at the free throw line in the win. Tyler Girard added seven points and Spencer Towne rounded out the scoring with six points.

Hockey

Petrin Alumni Game

The 31st annual David M. Petrin Alumni Hockey Game is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 17th, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield. The game will feature Greenfield High School and Green Wave alumni.

All GHS and Green Wave hockey alumni are welcome to play, with roster spots still available. Rosters are limited to 30 skaters and two goalies. Interested alumni should call Larry Petrin (413-773-9250) and leave their name, telephone number and year of graduation.

There will be a raffle held, with all proceeds going to benefit the David M. Petrin Memorial Scholarship, awarded each spring to Greenfield High School graduates. For more information or learn how to donate, please contact any member of the Petrin family.

Miscellany

Berkshire Highland Pentathlon

The annual Berkshire Highlands Pentathlon will be held April 6 at Berkshire East Resort in Charlemont.

Registration is now open for Bravehearts who do the entire course solo, family teams, teams of three-to-five, with four age-based categories. There are discounted entry fees for family teams and entrants under 19 year old. 

The coveted Braveheart trophies are made and donated by Ashfield Stone. The five events are a 4.5-mile trail run, 18-mile bicycle road ride, 2-plus mile paddle, 2-mile a dventure run and a climb up, ski down leg.

Almost 200 athletes participated last year. There will be great food and raffle prizes for winners in each category.

Online registration is at BikeReg.com, or register the day of the event. Numerous volunteers are needed, and this year’s beneficiary is the Good Neighbors Food Pantry.
