The Greenfield Post 81 Senior American Legion team opened its season Monday on the road against Pittsfield Post 68 and it was a pitchers’ duel at Clapp Park.

Pittsfield scored one run in the third inning and one in the sixth and that was just enough to get the job done, as Post 81 was unable to produce a run leading to a 2-0 loss.

Hugh Cyhowski pitched all six innings for Greenfield, striking out five and scattering three hits. Post 81 was held to four hits themselves, Ben Caron cracking a double while Sam Connors, Braeden Tsipenyuk and Shawn Baumann singling in the loss.

Greenfield hosting youth clinics

The Greenfield boys and girls high school soccer teams are hosting a series of youth soccer clinics this summer from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. from August 4-8.

The clinics will be run by the Greenfield varsity coaches and players and will take place at the Greenfield High School varsity field. Players will receive instruction on passing, dribbling, cardio, body shape, defending, tactics, goalie work and finishing. The clinics are open to all boys and girls aged 6-13, of any skill level, across Franklin County. Cost of attendance is $100 for the whole week. A lunch break will be provided for players. Families are able to sign up for lunch to be provided by Greenfield Public Schools Food Services, which they can indicate when they register.

To register for the clinic contact Greenfield boys varsity coach Erich Leaper at erilea1@gpsk12.org or 413-575-0467. The deadline to register for the youth clinics is July 20.

Greenfield United is also holding registration for the fall season. Registration is open for boys and girls aged 7-14 from Greenfield and the surrounding towns. Please note that if your player does not live or attend school in Greenfield, the club will need to submit a waiver for them to play. The club is introducing beginners clinics for players aged 5-7 who want a low stress environment to learn basic fundamentals without having to play in matches yet.
