Greenfield High School alum Owen Phelps closed out his baseball career at Castleton University in Vermont last week. 

The graduate student pitched 30 innings in 15 appearances for the Spartans out of the bullpen this spring. In his career, Phelps pitched 85 innings for Castleton, finished with a 6-5 record, made four saves and had a career ERA of 4.83. 

Castleton finished 13-25 on the season, falling to Rhode Island College in the season finale on May 2.

Pipione’s 5, Booska’s 1 – Owen Williams pitched well, allowing just one run over three innings with nine strikeouts to lift Pipione’s Sport Shop to a victory on Wednesday.

Madden Coates, Travis Williams, Spencer Towne, and Dalton Towne collected hits and and stole a combined 10 bases for Pip’s. 

Dayzar Crapps collected two triples and an RBI, and Ryan Newton pitched well for Booska’s Flooring, striking out the side.

Gilmore & Farrell 9, Smitty's 0 – Phil Brodeur struck out 13 and gave up just one hit to pitch Gilmore & Farrell Insurance to a decisive Majors Division win on Wednesday.

Hitting for G & F came from Ben Shivone and Brodeur (three hits each), as well as Ben Woodard, Miles Williams and Josh James. Jordan Terrillion doubled for the only hit for Smitty's.

Maniatty 14, New Fortune 6 – Preston Charboneau was 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs, while Fred Burnap and Damien Shields added two hits each to lift Maniatty Real Estate to a win. Jackson Puchalski pitched four strong innings in the start.

Blake Miner started, pitched three solid innings and added a single for New Fortune. Bryce Urkiel added a hit and Darick Chaisson scored a run in the loss.

 

Cherry Rum Auto 10, Parody Builders 8 – Ryan Little (four hits), Brysen Earl (three) and Jace Anderson (two) paced Cherry Rum, while Parody’s Tristan Earl, Brady Bernard and Lucas Pendleton all had multiple hits during Rookie Division action.

Pipione’s 2, Pristine Orientals 1 – Willow Bettencourt and Aniese Williams both contributed hits in a hard-fought Junior Division win for Pipione’s Sport Shop.

Carly Chadwick and Emma Carney each went 3-for-3 for Pristine, and Carney added two strikeouts on the mound.

Elks Club 9, Sandri 3 – Sydney Brown went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs, and Zoey Taylor added two hits and two RBIs to help Elks Club pick up a victory on Wednesday.

Sandri’s Mia Reardon had two hits and scored a run, while Parker Gebo-Lutenegger slugged three hits, scored a run and recorded three outs at first base.

Adult softball

Greenfield coed league

JRB 14, Adam & Eve 13 – Cody Underwood notched a walk-off hit to lift JRB to a victory on Wednesday.

Maura Crossman was 4-for-4 and Maddy Atkocaitis was 5-for-5 to lift JRB, while Colton Yezierski had three hits and a home run.

Adam & Eve’s Jeremy Lachey was 4-for-4, and Rachel Renaud and Hector Velez each had three hits.

Common Ground Fitness 19, The Gremlins 4 – David Maston hit for the cycle with six RBIs, and Joe Geary also had four hits, including a home run and four RBIs, to power Common Ground.

Chris Arsenault and Matt Welcome had three hits apiece, while Heather Belhumeur had two hits, including a double, in the win.

Jason Bassett had three hits with two doubles to pace the Gremlins.

Liberty Tax Sharks 20, Hot-L Warren 16 – Three hits apiece from Che Christi (2B, 3 RBIs) and Cody Willor (3B, 2 RBIs) propelled the Sharks in season-opening action Wednesday night.

It was a balanced offensive attack from Liberty Tax. Heather Gibson (2H, 3 RBIs), Trevor Thomas (2H, 3B, 4 RBIs), Matt Gibson (2H, 2 2B, 2 RBIs), Kenzie Bardwell (2H, 3 RBIs) and Kyle Conway (2H) all had big nights in the win.

Hot-L Warren’s Rylan Wade (HR, two 2Bs, 5 RBIs) and Josh Moran (three 2Bs) each had three hits. Heather Sikorski, Josh Lashway and Shane Coy all roped two hits on the night.

Golf

Thomas Memorial Women’s League

Robin Hartnett was the low gross winner on Wednesday, carding a 47 at the Thomas Memorial Women’s League in Turners Falls.

Low net was recorded by Cindy Scully (33), and Chante Jillson was closest to the pin on No. 7 (28 feet, 3 inches). Guess Your Score winners were Barb Bilz, Jenn Murphy, Cynthia Parker and Scully.

Knights of Columbus League

Bob Bourbeau took first with a score of 8 while Rod Brunelle and Rod Herzig tied for second (7) in the Knights of Columbus League at Thomas Memorial Wednesday. 

Chris Ray won closest to the pin on No. 7 (10-6) while Pete McDonough won it on No. 9 (2-10). Herzig, Ned Nichols and Scott Waldron won skins while Bourbeau carded the low gross (36).
