Westfield State’s Grace Poplawski was honored as the Owl athletics Female Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year this week.
The Scholar Athlete Award recognizes the four-year student athletes who maintained the highest cumulative grade point average. Poplawski — a Mohawk Trail alum — graduated from Westfield State in the fall with a degree in elementary education and was a four year member of the Owls’ cross country and track and field teams.
During her time at Westfield State, Poplawski was part of four straight MASCAC championship women’s cross country teams and on the track, she helped lead the Owls to conference indoor and outdoor titles in 2024, running a career best time of 19 minutes, 40.56 second in the 5,000 meters.
Since graduating, Poplawski has started her teaching career and is coaching in the ‘Girls on the Run’ program.
Tyler Dubreuil put up impressive numbers on the baseball diamond during his time at Mohawk Trail and Frontier and that has carried over during his college career at Castleton.
The junior infielder from Shelburne Falls finished the season with a .333 batting average, knocking 43 hits, driving in 27 runs and scoring 30 times himself. He was second in the LEC Conference with 21 steals, recorded 96 putouts and two assists in the field and had a fielding percentage of .980.
Those numbers helped Dubreuil be named to the LEC All-Conference Third Team, the first time Dubreuil has been named to an All-Conference team.
