Bulletin board: Registration ongoing for Montague Mug Race on Aug. 16

The 44th Montague Mug Race is right around the corner, with signups ongoing for the race which is scheduled for Aug. 16.
The race is 5.5 miles with a 2 mile mini run/walk option as well. The race begins at Montague Center Common at 8:30 a.m. with the 2 mile race kicking off at 8:35 a.m. Both races finish at the ball field on Station Street. All proceeds from the race benefit the Montague Fire Association and Montague Church. Pewter Mugs are awarded to the top male and female finisher.

Franklin County Summer League
Menace 15, Defenders 13 — Raine Wonsey doubled, homered and drove in four, Rileyanne Tine singled, doubled and drove in two, Kendra Steiner doubled in a run while Taylor Chase cracked two hits and drove in two in the Menace’s Franklin County Summer Softball League victory Thursday at Murphy Park.
Amy VanDoren singled and drove in two while Hannah Shepard and Lilly Bogert each singled in a run for the Defenders.
Bombers 15, Magic 7 — Sienna LaFlesh cracked three hits including a triple, drove in a run and added 10 strikeouts in the circle, Samantha LaFlesh tripled in a run while Addison Talbot and Carson Farrell each had two hits and an RBI in the Bombers’ triumph Thursday.
Emily Kajka struck out 13, Abigail Rosario singled and drove in two while Megan Flaherty singled in a run in the loss.

Montague soccer shoot
The Montague Elks is hosting a soccer shoot on August 23 at Franklin County Technical School. The rain date is set for August 30.
The shoot is open to boys and girls age 15 and younger. Registration starts at 9 a.m. the day of the shoot, with the competition beginning at 10 a.m. Participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate, baptismal record or passport to verify age. The winner of each contest will advance to the next level of the competition.

Greenfield youth clinics
The Greenfield boys and girls high school soccer teams are hosting a series of youth soccer clinics Aug. 4-8 from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
The clinics will be run by the Greenfield varsity coaches and players and will take place at the Greenfield High School varsity field. Players will receive instruction on passing, dribbling, cardio, body shape, defending, tactics, goalie work and finishing. The clinics are open to all boys and girls aged 6-13, of any skill level, across Franklin County. Cost of attendance is $100 for the whole week. A lunch break will be provided for players. Families are able to sign up for lunch to be provided by Greenfield Public Schools Food Services, which they can indicate when they register.

Greenfield United is also holding registration for the fall season. Registration is open for boys and girls aged 7-14 from Greenfield and the surrounding towns. Please note that if your player does not live or attend school in Greenfield, the club will need to submit a waiver for them to play. The club is introducing beginners clinics for players aged 5-7 who want a low stress environment to learn basic fundamentals without having to play in matches yet.
