As we head into Fourth of July weekend, the summer season is in full swing.
While the sports world slows down during these summer months, there are still plenty of big events in Franklin County on the horizon to keep an eye out on.
Here are some of the bigger events to put into the calendar:
It’s a special year for the Invitational Four Ball at Country Club of Greenfield.
The longtime tournament is celebrating its 80th edition this summer, with the Four Ball running from July 24-27. As always, Thursday is the qualifying round before match play begins on Friday and runs through Saturday. The championship matches will take place Sunday.
Dave Donoghue and Sam Wolanske were crowned the winners last year, the pair taking home the championship together for the second time. They’ll be back to defend their crown against an always-tough field.
The longest running triathlon in New England returns on the first Sunday in August. The 41st Greenfield Triathlon gets underway on Aug. 3, with another large field of athletes expected to head to the Green River Swim Area to compete.
South Deerfield’s JoEllen Reno has won seven straight sprint titles on the women’s side while Magnus Hermans took home the sprint title on the men’s side last year. Watch to see if the swim portion of the triathlon returns this year, as the water levels did not pass in order to hold it last summer.

A staple in the area, the 45th running of the Bridge of Flowers Road Race will take place on Saturday, Aug. 9.
Over 700 runners took to the grueling course a year ago and the race will be hoping to build on that number this summer. It was a pair of Western Mass. runners who came out on top last year, as Agawam’s Ezra Mutai was the first to cross the finish line while Shelburne Falls’ Kayla Lampe was the winner on the women’s side.
Closing out the big race stretch in the area is the Montague Mug Race, which will take place on Saturday, Aug. 16. It’s the 44th time the race will be contested.
Montague’s Michael Keebler, who placed 384th at the 2025 Boston Marathon, was the winner on the men’s side last year and Montague’s Anna Zilinski took home the title on the women’s side.
The 2025 New England Junior Amateur Golf Championship will take place at Crumpin-Fox Club this year, with the event set for Aug. 17-19.
The tournament is an invitational event, where seven junior boy golfers and five junior girl golfers from each of the New England state golf associations are selected to compete in a 54-hole team and individual stroke play competition. Selection process and criteria is determined by each state golf association.
Crump is set to host the New England Junior Amateur Championship each of the next three years.
