For the second year in a row, Crumpin-Fox Club took home a Mass Golf Women’s Cup title.

Competing in the Spring Cup 6 pod against the Country Club of Pittsfield, Taconic Golf Club, Waubeeka Golf Links, Wahconah Country Club and the Country Club of Greenfield, the Crumpin-Fox team did not lose a match and accumulated 206.5 total points to take first place for the second year in a row.

Pittsfield took second (188.5), Taconic came in third (186.5), Waubeeka took fourth (183), Wahconah came in fifth (160.5) and CCG settled for sixth (155).

CFC’s team was made up of Terry Boyce, Jill Waldron, Val Esquer, Lisa Sullivan, Julia Wallace and Corky Sysun.

“We had a lot of fun,” Waldron said. “It was good, healthy competition. We just kept inching ahead each match. We had quite a few close ones. Everyone was gunning for us.”

Not only did Crump go into the Cup with a target on its back as the defending champions, but with the tournament being handicapped, Crump went into each match having to give a number of strokes which put the pressure on the team to play its best.

Despite that, Crumpin-Fox was still able to get the win, and Waldron noted the stakes raised their level of play.

“Giving up the most number of strokes by far in our Cup and still remaining undefeated was great,” Waldron said. “It feels great to win. These girls are amazing and just so competitive. Not only that but we have a lot of fun and meet some great ladies too and formed some great relationships with the other clubs.”

It was a nearly identical team to the Crumpin-Fox squad that won their Cup title the year before, losing just one player from the previous season.

That camaraderie worked out well, as the team was able to support each other and put together great performances on the course.

“They’re a great group of girls to play with,” Waldron said. “I couldn’t have had more fun even though it’s super competitive. We all carpool together and are always cheering each other on. It’s an amazing group of ladies.”

Waldron credited Sullivan, the team captain, for leading the group.

“Lisa Sullivan does one heck of a job leading the charge for us,” Waldron said. “She wrangles all of us ladies up and helps us in any way she can.”
