GREENFIELD — Having first opened its doors in 1905, Greenfield Cooperative Bank is celebrating its 120th anniversary this summer.
“A lot has transpired since the bank was founded … two World Wars, two influenza pandemics, 14 economic recessions and 21 U.S. presidents,” Greenfield Cooperative Bank President and CEO Tony Worden said in a statement. “Through good times and difficult times, Greenfield Cooperative Bank continues to be there for our customers, our employees and the community.”
On its June 11 anniversary, the bank provided snacks and branded merchandise to customers in the front lobby. Vice President and Branch Manager Lisa Granger added that the bank also held raffle drawings for customers to win gift cards to a variety of local businesses.
Granger, who began working at Greenfield Cooperative Bank roughly 17 years ago, credited the bank’s longevity and success to the level of care and personalized attention it provides to customers.
“Our biggest achievement is just our commitment to the communities, and giving time and money back to the communities that we serve. It’s about making sure our customers are always happy and also just making sure our employees are happy,” Granger said. “That’s what makes us different; we’re very customer service-oriented and we always do right by our customer.”
Granger recalled how the COVID-19 pandemic brought unique challenges to banking, with Greenfield Cooperative Bank operating on an appointment-only basis while keeping its drive-thru open. While the pandemic forced many customers to adapt to online banking services, Granger said others still remained loyal to banking in person at the 277 Federal St. location.
“It was kind of a time of uncertainty for customers because things were a little crazy, and we were just finding out ways to work around it. We did a really great job of offering customers assistance during that time, and really just making sure that they were as comfortable as possible through the process,” Granger said. “It was having them be able to lean on us and make sure that they knew that we were going to be there for them, and we were still going to be the same bank in the end.”
Assistant Branch Manager Marina Connor, who has worked with the bank for the last eight years, echoed Granger’s remarks, adding that the focus employees give to customer satisfaction and service sets the bank apart from its competition.
