TURNERS FALLS — Montague Police requested the assistance of Greenfield Police and officers assigned to the Franklin County Regional Special Response Team in an attempt to serve arrest warrants for two males — one man and one juvenile — on Wednesday in connection with a report of shots fired on Third Street near the Nouria gas station Monday morning.
According to a statement released by the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, reports of shots fired were made at approximately 2 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. Monday. Laurie Loisel, a spokesperson from the district attorney’s office, wrote that the two events are “believed to have been related.”
Montague Police declined to comment on the investigation Wednesday and could not be reached for comment on Thursday.
“No one was home in the residence and the scene was turned over to the Montague Police Detective Unit at that point,” Greenfield Deputy Police Chief Christopher Greene said of Wednesday’s investigation. “The reason the team was asked for is because of the dangerousness of the service of the arrest warrant.”
Greene, who said he believed the reports of shots fired came from the same general area as the home on Third Street, mentioned that the individuals involved were allegedly “using firearms when they shouldn’t have been using firearms.”
The police, Greene said at a Public Safety Commission meeting Wednesday night, used drones, medics and crisis negotiation specialists while attempting to arrest the suspects.
This investigation remains ongoing and will be updated as new information becomes available.
Anyone with information relating to these incidents is asked to call Montague Det. Sgt. Joshua Hoffman at 413-863-8911.
