GREENFIELD — The man who purchased two local dealerships from McGovern Automotive Group about four months ago plans to open Greenfield Truck & Equipment on Beacon Street within the next couple weeks.
Alex Castergini Jr. closed on McGovern Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram at 39 Beacon St. and McGovern Chevrolet at 54 Main St. Though he had initially intended to shutter the Beacon Street spot because he did not want to move the business, as the manufacturers insisted, he changed his mind when he discovered a void that needed to be filled.
“I felt there was a need in the area. We had the building, so we started figuring out what we should do with it and this is what we came up with,” he said Monday.
The dealership will be an authorized dealer of Bobcat grounds maintenance equipment and will carry other brands, such as BOSS snowplows, ECHO power equipment and Billy Goat specialty turf products. The business is also researching trailer brands and will sell pre-owned commercial trucks, including dump trucks, plow trucks and more.
“I think we’ll be able to bring back the local, town feel,” said Castergini, who recently moved from Connecticut to Easthampton. “Of course, the biggest part of our business is going to be service. We want to be able to stand up on the service side. We’re going to offer free pickup and delivery [within Franklin County].”
Greenfield Truck & Equipment will service every brand, and will sharpen chainsaws and lawnmower blades.
“It’s going to be big,” Service Manager Scott Martowski said. “We’re going to be doing mobile repairs.”
Martowski worked for McGovern before Castergini purchased the two dealerships and has worked in the Greenfield automotive industry for 14 years. Parts Manager Andy Billiel has been in the field for 25 years and Service Manager Steve Mansfield has about seven years of experience.

“So we’re familiar with the area, familiar with the people,” Martowski said.
He mentioned the store will likely have about six employees when it is up and running.
The store will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, according to its website. For more information, visit greenfieldtruck.com or call 413-668-5221.
