HS Roundup: Franklin Tech softball hits three home runs to take down Mount Greylock, 15-3, in Class C quarterfinals

It was the start to the Western Mass. Tournament the Franklin Tech softball team hoped for on Wednesday.
The third-seeded Eagles hosted sixth-seeded Mount Greylock in the quarterfinals of the Western Mass. Class C Tournament and with the game knotted 1-1 going into the bottom of the third, Tech got its its bats going.
The Eagles put eight runs on the board in the third and in the fourth, Lindsey Taylor hit a three-run home run, Hannah Gilbert followed with a home run and in the ensuing at bat Kylee Gamache hit a solo shot to cap a six-run fourth that helped Franklin Tech advance to the semifinals with a 15-3 victory in five innings.
The Eagles (16-3) advance to face No. 2 Lenox in the semis.
Gilbert got the win in the circle, striking out seven and scattering six hits. Guerin added a pair of singles and RBIs to go along with her home run, Shelby O’Leary singled to drive in two, Gamache added a single, a double and an RBI, Brayleigh Burgh singled, doubled and drove in one while Gianna DiSciullo singled, doubled and drove in two for Franklin Tech.
Greenfield 21, SICS 0 (5 innings) — The top-seeded Wave looked the part on Wednesday in its Class C opener against the No. 8 Bulldogs, scoring 14 runs in the third to run away with a win at Vets Field.
Greenfield (13-6) advances to host No. 4 McCann Tech on Saturday in the semis at 4 p.m.
MacKenzie Paulin threw a no-hitter on Wednesday, striking out 13 and now allowing a walk while adding three hits and an RBI at the plate. Anna Bucala recorded four hits and three RBIs, Gloria McDonald tallied three hits and five RBIs, Kayden Viencek singled and drove in three, Sarah McCloud and Grace Laurie each singled and drove in two while Olivia Lemay and Bianca Reynolds each had a hit and an RBI in the winning effort.

Frontier 8, Monument Mountain 3 — A fast start did the job for the second-seeded Redhawks on Wednesday, taking a 5-0 lead after one to knock off the Mounties at Zabek Field.
Frontier (12-7) moves on to face No. 3 South Hadley in the semifinals.
Raine Wonsey went the distance for the Redhawks, striking out 11 and surrendering just three hits while helping herself with a pair of RBIs at the plate. Ashley Taylor singled, doubled and drove in one, Olivia Machon and Addie Ehle both singled and drove in two, Sophia Pinardi singled and drove in a run, Delaney Fifield knocked two hits while Riley Tine doubled in the winning effort.
Turners 16, Ware 0 (5) — The top-seeded Thunder took care of business on Wednesday at Gary Mullins Field, earning a spot in the semifinals with a win over Ware.
Turners (15-4) hosts No. 4 Monson in the semifinals.
Madi Liimatainen allowed two hits, struck out 11 and added two hits and an RBI at the plate. Mia Marigliano blasted two tripled, two singles and drove in two, Janelle Massey doubled and knocked in two, Autumn Thornton knocked two hits and drove in a run, Addison Talbot had a hit and an RBI, Ameliya Galbraith doubled in three runs while Marilyn Abarua and Maddie Dietz hit safely in the win.
Hoosac 13, Pioneer 1 — The seventh-seeded Panthers were unable to pull off the upset on the road, as the No. 2 Hurricanes advanced with a victory in Cheshire Wednesday.
Hoosac advances to face No. 3 Hopkins in the semifinals
Luci Burnap, Laylah Goulston and Natalie Johnson singled and Jaelyn Boliski struck out three in the loss for Pioneer (9-10).
Western Mass. Class C semifinal
PV Christian 3, Frontier 1 — The Eagles took control after the two teams split the first two sets, winning the third and fourth to advance to the Class C finals with a 25-15, 17-25, 25-13, 27-25 win over the Redhawks in Springfield.
Frontier enters the MIAA Div. 2 state tournament with a 7-13 record.
Tegan Dexter recorded 15 kills and 18 digs, Will Reading tallied 14 kills, Nate Rivera put down 10 kills and made 12 digs, Tavo Vincent-Warner finished with 36 assists and 16 digs while Evan Maio made 13 digs in the loss.
Mohawk Trail 11, Smith Vocational 4 — Addie Loomis cracked a pair of doubles while Emmalee Inman and Riley Dyer each knocked two hits in the Warriors’ victory over the Vikings Tuesday.
Megan Gabaree hit safely while Grace Stevens struck out eight in the win.
