HS Roundup: Frontier boys track stays unbeaten with win over Greenfield

It was a massive Intercounty League meet between the Greenfield and Frontier boys track teams in South Deerfield on Tuesday, as both sides entered with unbeaten records.
Frontier’s Evan Hedlund won the mile (5 minutes, 8 seconds) and 2 mile (11:41.9) to lead Frontier to a tight 77-68 victory.
Other Redhawk winners were Julian Adams in shot put (37 feet, 8.5 inches), Garrett Dredge in long jump (18-0.5), Adrien Pazmandy in pole vault (12-6), Charles Dennis in the 800 (2:21.3) and Ian Paciorek in the 400 (51.6). Frontier won the 4x400 relay (3:43.1).
Greenfield winners were Jack Laurie in javelin (141-3), the 100 (11.4) and 200 (23.5), Jon Breor in discus (125-7), Mason Youmell in triple jump (39-11.5), the 110 hurdles (15.8) and the 400 hurdles (56.9) and Krish Patel in high jump (6-0). The Wave won the 4x100 relay (44.8).

Mohawk Trail 117, Pioneer 18 — Chay Mojallali won the high jump (6-2) and discus (111-0) while Crimson Helenek took the shot put (35-5.25) and javelin (125-6) in the Warriors’ victory over the Senators in Buckland Tuesday.
Other Mohawk Trail winners were Qwade Niquette in long jump (18-1.5), Tanner Biagini in the 100 (11.9), Rex Kuoppala in the mile (4:53.1) and Peter Healy in the 2 mile (10:43.2). The Warriors won the 4x400 relay (3:52).
Mahar winners were Mitchell Krasco in the triple jump (44-1.5), 110 hurdles (15.6) and 400 hurdles (61.6), Mathieu Soucy in the 200 (23.6) and 400 (52.9) and Coltin Fausett in the pole vault (10-6). The Sens won the 4x100 relay (46.7).
Ryan Spofford won the 800 (2:12.5) for Pioneer.

Frontier 114, Greenfield 31 — Hannah Davis won the long jump (14-9.75), triple jump (32-3.5) and 100 hurdles (17.1) for the Redhawks in a victory over the Green Wave in South Deerfield Tuesday.
Rounding out the Frontier winners were Lilly Novak in shot put (27-3.25) and discus (113-0), Bailey Cusson in javelin (98-4), Mary Burt in high jump (5-0), Elsa Brown in pole vault (8-6), Liv Christensen in the mile (6:10), Josie Fosnot in the 400 (1:03.17), Sylvie DiBartolomeo in the 2 mile (12:06.30) and Perla Ordaz in the 800 (2:43.8). Frontier won the 4x400 relay (4:39.3).
For Greenfield, Nina St. Clair won the 100 (13.5) and 200 (27.5) while Kyra Tamsin won the 400 hurdles (1:14.8). The Green Wave took the 4x100 relay (53.0).
Mohawk Trail 92, Pioneer 48
Mohawk Trail 119, Mahar 25 — Virginia Krezmien won the mile (5:55.4) and the 2 mile (15:07.5) while Zephyr Jetzon took first in long jump (15-3.25), triple jump (30-10) and 100 (13.3) to lead the Warriors to a pair of victories in Buckland Tuesday.
Other Mohawk Trail winners were Lydia Pinkham in the 400 (66.4), Morgan Raffa in discus (95-1) and javelin (116-1) and Anya Read in the 800 (2:32.5). Mohawk Trail also won the 4x400 relay (4:34.6).
Pioneer winners were Emmanuelle Flagollet in the 400 hurdles (69.9), Louise Flagollet in the high jump (5-4.25) and 200 (27.5), Natalie Rios in shot put (27-9) and Sahana Heilman in the 100 hurdles (17.5). The Panthers won the 4x100 relay (52.3).
Stellina Moore won pole vault (9-0) for Mahar.
Greenfield 4, Turners 1 – Amy Mihailicenco won a three-setter at No. 1 singles for the Green Wave, holding off Turners’ Olivia Wolbach, 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 10-8, to help Greenfield to a second straight win.
Greenfield also received a win at No. 3 singles from Karinna Kostov (6-0, 6-1), and doubles victories from Adele Bross/Lizzy Derivolkova (6-4, 6-1) and Vera Jackson/Maddie Mosher (6-3, 6-2).
Turners’ Avery Heathwaite snagged a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles to pace the Powertown.
PVCICS 4, Frontier 1 — Brooke Charest and Hailey Fernandez had the lone win on the day for the Redhawks, securing a 6-0, 7-6 triumph in No. 2 doubles in a loss to the Dragons on Tuesday.
Pioneer 4, Franklin Tech 1 — The Eagles put a scare into the unbeaten Panthers, with the game knotted at one going into the sixth. Pioneer rallied and put three on the board in the top of the sixth and held on from there to come away with an independent win in Turners Tuesday.
Braeden Tsipenyuk and Evan Tsipenyuk each tallied two hits and an RBI, Jackson Campbell finished with a single and two RBIs, Brody Welcome knocked two hits, Ethan Quinn doubled while Ben Werner added a base hit in the victory. Alex McClelland tossed all seven innings, striking out five.
Gavin Crossman held the Panther bats down for the Eagles, striking out three while giving up nine hits. Tyler Yetter and Crossman both recorded two hits at the plate, Nick Prasol singled to drive in a run while George Gutierrez added a base hit for Franklin Tech.
“Gavin Crossman pitched an incredible game,” Eagles coach Dan Prasol said. “He 100 percent kept us in that game the whole time. We played well on defense behind him and our guys competed.”
Frontier 7, Turners 4 — The Thunder led 4-2 going into the sixth but the Redhawks rallied to score three in the sixth and two in the seventh to earn a comeback victory in Turners on Tuesday.
Jack Cusson finished with a pair of hits and RBIs, Braeden Dion tallied two hits and an RBI, Kaden James singled and drove in two, Brady Poreda tripled while Shawn Baumann and Joey Hutkoski singled for Frontier. Max Skribiski-Banack struck out five in the win.
Kainen Stevens was strong on the mound for Turners, striking out two in seven innings work. Jackson Cogwell homered, singled twice and drove in three, Trevor Lyons finished with a hit and an RBI while Brody Girard and Freilyn Abarua hit safely for the Thunder.
Greenfield 9, Hampshire 6 — The Green Wave found themselves trailing 4-1 after three but rallied to score three in the fifth before taking the lead with a five-run sixth inning to defeat the Raiders in a Suburban League West contest in Westhampton Thursday.
Chase Zraunig cracked a pair of hits and drove in two runs, Caleb Thomas singled and drove in three runs, Conner Bergeron tallied a hit and an RBI while Luca Siano, Urijah Jenness and Arthur Fitzpatrick hit safely for Greenfield. Fitzpatrick got the win on the mound, tossing six innings and striking out three. Logan Moore pitched the final frame for the Wave.
Pope Francis 5, Greenfield 0 — Landon Clark fell 6-1, 6-2 in No. 3 singles for the Wave, which fell to the Cardinals on Tuesday in Springfield.
PVCICS 5, Frontier 0 — Matt Sibley and Liam Wells fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles for the Redhawks in a loss to the Dragons on Tuesday.
PV Christian 3, Frontier 1 — Tegan Dexter finished with 22 kills and came up with 14 digs for the Redhawks, which fell 23-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-18 in Springfield Tuesday.
Nate Rivera smashed 13 kills and made 17 digs, Will Reading recorded five kills, Tavo Vincent-Warner distributed 40 assists while Evan Maio made 14 digs in the loss.
