The Greenfield baseball team will be playing for a Western Mass. championship this week.
The third-seeded Wave went on the road Sunday to face second-seeded Westfield Tech in the Western Mass. Class C semifinals, where Greenfield’s Logan Moore threw a gem.
The senior didn’t allow an earned run, scattering five hits walking two and striking out seven while the Green Wave scored one in the second, one in the fourth and four in the seventh to reach the title game with a 6-1 victory on the road.
Greenfield (13-7) will take on No. 1 Drury in the championship game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at MacKenzie Stadium in Holyoke.
“This is probably one of the more complete games we’ve played this season,” Green Wave coach Tom Suchanek said. ‘We were psychologically into the game and fired up from the start. We had more opportunities to score but didn’t capitalize. Logan pitched a great game.”
Chase Zraunig led the way with three hits and two RBIs in the win. Nico Siano cracked two hits and drove in a run, Arthur Fitzpatrick tallied a hit and an RBI, Conner Bergeron added two hits while Caleb Thomas and Urijah Jenness hit safely in the victory.
Drury 10, Athol 2 – A 10-run bottom of the fifth inning saved the host Blue Devils, which turned a 2-0 deficit into an eight-run lead en route to a Class C semifinal win on Monday in North Adams.
No. 1 Drury will play No. 3 Greenfield in Wednesday’s final.

The Bears struck first, plating a pair of unearned runs in the second inning to take an early 2-0 advantage. That advantage held into the bottom of the fifth, when Drury put together a monster inning. Julian Feliciano gave Drury a 3-2 lead when he bunted home a run, and Brayden Durant later cleared the bases with a three-run double.
Athol (11-7), champions of the Bi-County League North, now awaits its seed and draw in the upcoming MIAA Division 5 tournament.

The Eagles (17-3) will take on top-seeded Greenfield in the championship game on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Westfield State. It will be a rematch of last year’s Class C championship game.
Hannah Gilbert earned her sixth shutout win of the season, striking out nine and allowing just two hits. Gilbert hit a two-run home run in the first after Lindsey Taylor singled and added a three-run blast in the fourth. The senior finished the game 3-for-4 with six RBIs.

Class B
Hampshire 2, Frontier 1 — It was a pitchers’ duel in the Class B semifinals on Sunday between the second-seeded Redhawks and the third-seeded Tigers.
South Hadley managed two runs in the third and Tiger Ella Schaeffer kept Frontier off the board until the seventh, when Raine Wonsey hit a solo home run to cut the lead to 2-1. The Redhawks were unable to score the game-tying run however, as South Hadley advanced to the finals with a victory in South Deerfield.
