Steve and Joan Stoia: Support Barbara Brassor for Select Board

On May 6, Northfield voters will fill a vacancy on the Select Board. Two candidates are running: Dan Campbell, who currently serves as assistant town clerk, chair of the Finance Committee, and is a former town clerk — and Barbara Brassor, a lifelong Northfield resident with a deep history of public service. Barbara has served as town clerk, treasurer, tax collector, and election official in Northfield, as well as town clerk in Bernardston for six years. We’re supporting Barbara Brassor, and here’s why.

First, Barbara’s long and varied experience gives her a valuable understanding of town operations, especially in matters of finance and citizen engagement. Her record shows a commitment to fairness, transparency, and listening to residents. As our town continues to navigate important issues, from budgeting to community priorities, we need someone with Barbara’s knowledge and approach.

Second, Barbara’s respectful and community-oriented style stands in contrast to recent moments of division, including a recent Select Board meeting when a petition signed by over 160 residents requesting a thoughtful evaluation process before renewing the town administrator’s contract was met with dismissieve language many found surprising. Openness to dialogue is essential in local government and Barbara has a reputation for listening and collaborating, even when perspectives differ.

Barbara also offers clarity in terms of roles and responsibilities. She brings fresh perspective and a singular focus on serving as a Select Board member. With experience in finance and administration, she’s equipped to serve effectively without the risk of blurred lines or conflicts of interest.

Most importantly, Barbara Brassor leads with care, integrity, and a deep-rooted love for Northfield. She’s someone who believes in common sense solutions, in building community, and in accountability to all residents. She says it best herself: “I believe in common sense solutions and actions that support community. I would like the opportunity to serve my fellow citizens and our beautiful town, and I will be accountable to you.”

We hope you’ll join us in supporting Barbara Brassor for Select Board on May 6.
