A friend recently reminded me of a banner displayed above one of the prominent banks in our town center. It was up there for over a year, during the brief period when racism and murder were finally being exposed in the mainstream news media. The banner read something to the effect of “Racism has no place in Greenfield.”

It spoke to who we strive to be as a city. So inspired by its message about justice, community and democracy, my friend actually transferred all their banking to that institution.

Sadly, that banner and its message of community no longer hangs above our Main Street.

Once again it would be good to express our aspirations to civility and community: GREENFIELD HAS NO PLACE FOR HATE.
