MIAA brackets revealed: Turners Falls softball, Pioneer baseball earn No. 1 seeds

The MIAA baseball and softball state tournament brackets were revealed on Wednesday, with two Recorder area teams earning the top seeds in their respective divisions.
The Pioneer baseball team, which entered Wednesday’s Western Mass. Class D championship game with an unbeaten 20-0 record, earned the top seed in the Div. 5 field while the defending Div. 5 champion Turners Falls softball team is also the top seed in Div. 5.
All Western Mass. championship games played on Wednesday did not count toward the formula for seeding teams.
Pioneer will face the winner of No. 32 Bourne and No. 33 West Boylston in the Round of 32.
In the Div. 5 baseball field, Greenfield and Athol earned automatic spots in the Round of 32, the Green Wave seeded eighth and the Bears at No. 14.
Greenfield (13-7) will host the winner of No. 25 Ayer Shirley and No. 40 Atlantis Charter in the Round of 32 while Athol (11-7) will host No. 19 McCann Tech in the Round of 32.
Franklin Tech and Turners will be hosting games in the preliminary round. The Eagles (10-10) enter as the No. 23 seed and play No. 42 Salem Academy Charter in the prelims. The winner of that game will take on No. 10 Bromfield in the Round of 32.
Turners (8-10) is the No. 30 seed and will play No. 35 Pathfinder in the prelims, with the winner of that contest going on the road to play No. 3 Drury in the Round of 32.

Frontier (12-8) will be hosting a Round of 32 game in Div. 4, the Redhawks earning the No. 16 seed and will host No. 17 Old Colony.
Over in Div. 5 softball, Turners (16-4) will play the winner of No. 32 Bromfield and No. 33 Rising Tide Charter in the Round of 32.
Not surprisingly, Greenfield (14-6) is seeded second and will face the winner of No. 31 Sturgis Charter East and No. 34 Mystic Valley in the Round of 32.
Franklin Tech (17-3) earned the No. 7 seed and will play the winner of No. 26 Whitinsville and No. 39 Tech Boston in the Round of 32.
Pioneer and Mohawk Trail will host games in the preliminary round, the Panthers coming in at the No. 24 spot and will take on No. 41 Madison Park in the prelims. The winner of that game will face off with No. 9 Narragansett.
Mohawk Trail is seeded at No. 28 and will host No. 37 Boston Collegiate Charter in the prelims, the winner of that game playing No. 5 Maynard in the Round of 32.
Over in Div. 4, Frontier is the No. 8 seed and will host No. 25 Ayer Shirley in the Round of 32.
The volleyball brackets were revealed on Tuesday, with Frontier earning the No. 28 seed. The Redhawks will host No. 37 Lynn Vocational on Thursday at 7 p.m., the winner advancing to play No. 5 Chicopee Comp in the Round of 32.
