Swing music coming to Great Falls Discovery Center

TURNERS FALLS — The Silverback Swingers, a swing music group, will perform at the Great Falls Discovery Center, 2 Avenue A, on Friday, Aug. 8, at 7 p.m.

The group will bring the genre that was popular in the 1920s and 1930s to today’s audiences, featuring traditional jazz influences, up-tempo beats and guitar improvisations. The band is made up of Alton Lathrop, lead guitar; Mark Anagnostopulos, rhythm guitar and vocals; Gus Hollingsworth, accordion; and Steve Frankel, bass.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. There is a suggested sliding-scale donation of $7 to $20, but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds. Children will be admitted for free. Refreshments will be available.

Home Body, Wishbone Zoe to perform

TURNERS FALLS — Synth-pop duo Home Body and folk-rock musician Wishbone Zoe will perform at Peskeomskut Park, at Avenue A and Seventh Street, on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 6:30 p.m.

Guests are encouraged to bring chairs, a blanket and a picnic to the free, family-friendly event. The rain date is Sunday, Aug. 10.

Franklin County photography exhibit on display

TURNERS FALLS — The Springfield Photographic Society will present images of each Franklin County town during an exhibit at the Great Falls Discovery Center’s Great Hall, beginning Friday, Aug. 1, and continuing through Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Cosplay workshop coming to Erving Public Library

ERVING — Attendees can learn to create a foam costume prop during a cosplay workshop with Eldritch Arts owner Eliza Eldredge at the Erving Public Library on Sunday, Aug. 3, from 1 to 3 p.m.

The program is part of the “Level Up at Your Library” Summer Reading Program and advance registration is required. Visit bit.ly/4kWue3l to register. Registration closes the day before the program.

The Summer Reading Program will conclude on Sunday, Aug. 10, with a celebration at the library from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants can turn in their reading logs and get a limited edition T-shirt. Raffle tickets must be turned in by 2 p.m.
