Bike path to close

TURNERS FALLS — Beginning Monday, May 12, a portion of the Canalside Rail Trail Bike Path from the 11th Street Bridge to Depot Street will be closed as FirstLight Hydro Generating Co. completes a maintenance project on the power canal’s left dike.

The closure is expected to continue for up to four weeks. Detours and signs have been posted throughout the trail, with maps showing the detour and providing additional information for trail users.

Taylor Swift tribute coming to Shea Theater

TURNERS FALLS — The Taylor Swift tribute show “13 – A Celebration of Taylor Swift” will come to the Shea Theater Arts Center, 71 Avenue A, on Saturday, May 10, at 7:30 p.m.

The performance will feature Swift’s biggest hits like “Red,” “Shake It Off,” “Love Story,” “Cruel Summer,” “Karma” and others from across her musical eras for an all-ages audience. Tickets are $35 for front-row VIP seats that come with a poster and bracelet, $25 for lower-level seating and $20 for upper-level seating. Spanish language learning available at library

ERVING — “Mucho Gusto with Laurie Davidson,” the Spanish language music and movement class for children up to age 4 and their caregivers, is coming to the Erving Public Library on Mondays, May 12 and May 19, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

“Mucho Gusto” classes are conducted in Spanish with a bit of English when necessary to facilitate understanding. Sessions are based around a collection of songs with overlapping themes and vocabulary. Students sing, dance and move, and families with little or no prior exposure to Spanish, as well as those who are raising their children bilingually, are welcome to attend.

May 13: Garden Club to meet

ERVING — The Garden Club will meet on Tuesday, May 13, at 1 p.m. at the Erving Senior and Community Center to discuss plans for the garden at the center and the new raised garden beds.

Learn about identity theft in Senior Center program

ERVING — Greenfield Savings Bank and the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office will present information on identity theft at the Erving Senior and Community Center on Thursday, May 15, at 1 p.m.

Moms Do Care coming to Brick House

TURNERS FALLS — Representatives from the support program Moms Do Care will visit The Brick House Community Resource Center, 24 Third Street, on Thursday, May 15, at 10:15 a.m.

The representatives will tell attendees about the services they offer to expecting mothers or new mothers in recovery.

Gardening help available at Greenfield Savings Bank

TURNERS FALLS — Peter Kretzenger will present a “Gardening Tips Community Event” at Greenfield Savings Bank’s Turners Falls branch, 282 Avenue A, on Saturday, May 17, at 1 p.m.

Guests can learn from the local grower and vegetable supplier about successful gardening methods. The event is free and light refreshments will be served.

Brick House 5K returns May 17

TURNERS FALLS — The Brick House Community Resource Center’s eighth annual 5K fundraiser will take place on Saturday, May 17, at 10 a.m. on the Canalside Rail Trail Bike Path in Unity Park.

Participants are invited to run the full 5K or embark on the 1-mile “Walk and Roll” for walkers, rollers and skaters. Youth ages 18 and under can register for free and there are pay-what-you-can, donation and fundraising options on the online registration page.

Online registration is encouraged and pre-registration is $40. Race-day registration will be $45. There will be prizes from local vendors.
