GREENFIELD — Firefighters were called to the parking lot of the McDonald’s on Federal Street in Greenfield Tuesday night where they doused an unoccupied Honda Pilot that caught fire. There were no injuries.
Greenfield Fire Capt. Andrew Garvin said the call for a vehicle on fire came in at 7:53 p.m. He said it appeared to be an engine fire that extended into the interior of the SUV. There were no occupants inside the vehicle when the fire started, and the call for service came from inside the restaurant.
The fire did not extend beyond the SUV to nearby vehicles, but scorched the fence and the pavement in front of the vehicle, which was parked on the right side of the parking lot.
The owner of the Honda Pilot reported that there were issues with the transmission prior to the fire, Garvin said. The SUV was towed by Byrne Towing shortly after 8:30 p.m. once firefighters finished cleaning up the charred debris off the pavement.
