BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Unitarian Meetinghouse will host a Jazz Night on Saturday, May 17, from 6 to 9 p.m. featuring Harborside Jazz, a trio of musicians from Cape Ann, as well as a talk by Bernardston filmmaker Rawn Fulton about his still photo works that are on display at the meetinghouse.
Harborside Jazz is made up of Phil Swanson, piano and trombone; Steve Lacey, guitar; and Patrick Dole, bass.
Swanson has had a wide-ranging career as a trombonist, pianist, organist, composer and teacher. He has performed with the Boston Symphony, Boston Pops, and numerous other ensembles in the classical and jazz traditions. He has released seven CDs on the MSR label on trombone and piano, and has numerous compositions published by J.W. Pepper. He also serves as professor of music at Salem State University.
Lacey is a guitarist and multi-instrumentalist based in Gloucester. Lacey is primarily a finger-style jazz guitarist, and has recently been performing and recording with piano, organ, clarinets and recorders.
Dole is an electric and double bass artist. He attended The Hartt School, where he studied with Nat Reeves, and Berklee College of Music, where he studied with Bruce Gertz. Dole has worked as a studio musician, and toured both nationally and internationally.
While over the last 60 years, Fulton has worked primarily as a documentary filmmaker. He has also pursued a personal interest in many aspects of still photography — in landscapes, portraiture and photo montage. His current exhibit at the Bernardston Unitarian Meetinghouse is titled “Bach & Buddhism: Visual Fugues and Memory Palaces.”
