GREENFIELD — With a program of speakers and music on Saturday, the Immigrant Rights Task Force of Franklin County Continuing the Political Revolution hopes to help people learn more about the challenges facing the immigrant community and invite residents to join in the effort to support them.

The grassroots organization that focuses on progressive issues invites the community to attend a rally on the Greenfield Common, next to City Hall, from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Speakers include state Sen. Jo Comerford, Wheaton College professor John Miller, Rabbi James Greene of Jewish Family Service of Western Massachusetts and attorney Stewart “Buz” Eisenberg. There will be music by Molly Scott, as well as a spoken word performance by Nbs Malay.

After the speakers and performances, people are welcome to participate in a standout in support of due process and constitutional protections that organizers say are under threat amid the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainments being carried out under the presidential administration.

“We want to humanize our immigrant neighbors,” Lynn Duggan, who is part of the Immigrant Rights Task Force, said in a statement. “They are people who have come here looking for safety and opportunity for their families, and they contribute a great deal to our economy and culture.”

“Families are afraid, and rightfully so,” said fellow task force member David Detmold. “We have organized a Rapid Response Network to support our immigrant neighbors. Although we may not stop immigration raids, our presence can be very important.”

Rally organizers also plan to share information about a hotline (617-370-5023) that people can call when they see ICE activity.

“In these difficult times, we want to come together to stand with our immigrant neighbors to offer support in practical ways and to object to the unlawful actions of ICE,” organizer Pixie Holbrook said in a statement.
