GREENFIELD — East Springfield Post 420 entered Wednesday’s Senior American Legion contest against Greenfield Post 81 with an unblemished 3-0 record and looked every bit the part.
East Springfield broke open a 7-0 lead after the second inning and that proved to be more than enough to get the job done as Eliezer Rosario Lebron didn’t give Post 81 anything to work with at the plate.
Rosario Lebron struck out seven and scattered two hits in five innings of work as East Springfield crashed Post 81’s season opener at Vets Field with a 15-1 victory in five innings.
“That’s a really good team,” Greenfield coach Alex Siano said “but we’re too good to get beat like that. We didn’t get off to a good start and some of the kids are coming off a long high school season. I think we’ll be better moving forward.”
With two outs in the top of the first, Rosario Lebron cracked a double to deep left field and was driven in off a base hit from Franklyn Torres. Eliam Martinez Rosario, who walked, scored on a balk to give East Springfield a 2-0 lead after one.
East Springfield put up a five-spot in the second. Gabriel Miranda and Nestor Sosa Escalona each singled in a run, Martinez Rosario drove in two with a double while East Springfield added a run on an errant pickoff throw to take a 7-0 lead after two.
The runs kept coming from there. East Springfield scored four in the third off an RBI from Miranda while the final three runs came on wild pitches and errors.
In the fifth, Jaliel Rodriguez doubled in a pair of runs while errors allowed East Springfield to build its 15-1 lead.
