MALDEN — Several area high school baseball players captured the silver medal in the 2025 Bay State Games Baseball Showcase tournament at Rotondi Field at Howard Park on Wednesday. The West team fell to Central, 10-1, in the Gold Medal game, which wrapped up competition of the three-day event.
The tournament featured six teams as each squad was composed of players from certain sections of the state. Among the area athletes for the West team were Belchertown’s Canyon Charron and Pioneer Valley Regional’s Jackson Glazier.
The duo didn’t manage to get on base during the Gold Medal game, though neither did most of the West team lineup as Central starting pitcher Bryce Everson tossed a gem for the gold medalists. Everson struck out 10 West batters and played a major role in holding West to just five hits throughout the contest.
“Their starting pitcher was really good,” Charron said. “His slider was devastating. It looked like a fastball all the way in, couldn’t pick it up.”
Still, both Charron and Glazier enjoyed the experience of representing Western Massachusetts on the diamond.
“It was really fun,” Charron said. “I had never played with most of these guys before so meeting all the new people from all the new towns was really enjoyable. I learned a lot from them.”
“It’s cool playing with everybody from around all the areas, I recognize a lot of names from around here, from the state tournament, so that’s cool,” Glazier said. “It was fun playing with a lot of good competitors and [an] all-around good experience.”
The Baseball Showcase is part of the annual Bay State Summer Games, an event that mimics the Olympic Games, but at a state level. More than 30 different sports are hosted at the Bay State Games and about 7,000 athletes compete. The Massachusetts Amateur Sports Foundation has been the primary organizer of the Bay State Games since 1982.

Wednesday’s Gold Medal game concluded the West team’s six-game slate across three days, where it went 3-2-1. West’s only two losses came to Central, by a combined score of 19-2. Its best win came in the form of a 15-3 triumph against Metro on Tuesday.
Central essentially ran the table during the tournament (5-0-1, 10 total runs allowed in six games) as its only non-loss came in a 5-5 tie to Southeast on Tuesday.
“You could tell that they picked people who want to win,” Glazier said on the competition level throughout the tournament. “Playing with these guys, they know how to win and they know how to really be competitive, every inning, every pitch.”
The tournament’s format of three consecutive days of doubleheaders put players’ willingness to compete to the test. Games began on Monday morning and alternated between Rotondi Field and Maplewood Park in Malden until medals were awarded Wednesday afternoon. Northeast beat Metro, 7-6, to claim the bronze medal.
Charron starred in the middle infield for West, and mentioned playing in this year’s tournament exposed him to some high-caliber fielders.
“The defense is eye-opening almost,” Charron said. “I play Legion and travel ball and high school, I don’t see defense like this very often. Except for this game, there were almost zero errors, outstanding defense. I look around and they’re all making exceptional plays.”
Despite the disappointing finish to the tournament, the West team earned silver medals, which is more than a majority of the competing athletes walked away from the tournament with.
“I did this just to enjoy it and play some baseball,” Glazier said. “Going home with a silver medal is alright, too.”
Other local players listed on the West roster were Hampshire Regional’s Riley Florek and Joseph Bregut, Granby’s Brandon Carillon and Hopkins Academy’s Chace Earle.
