The UMass hockey team revealed its third and final transfer addition to the 2025-26 roster on Thursday in former RIT forward Matthew Wilde.

Wilde was a point-a-game player with the Tigers during his two years with the program, registering 67 points in 67 games. The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder also totaled 37 goals during his tenure with RIT, including 18 tucks in 27 games a year ago.

During the 2024-25 season, Wilde received a Hobey Baker Award nomination and was an Atlantic Hockey Forward of the Year finalist. The Mississauga, Ontario native joins Mikey DeAngelo and Owen Mehlenbacher as Minutemen portal additions for next season.

“Matthew spent the last two years at RIT, where he proved to be a dangerous goal scorer and proven offensive threat in college hockey,” UMass head coach Greg Carvel  said in a statement released by UMass athletics. “Matty has great size and a great offensive skill set. As his game continues to develop, he should become a very effective power forward in Hockey East, a player that can score around the net or from a distance with his excellent shooting ability. More importantly, he is a high character young man who plays with a chip on his shoulder and comes to UMass ready to prove himself, and prepare himself, to be a professional hockey player. We are very excited to bring Matty into our culture.”

The 23-year-old scored 42 goals during his final season of junior hockey with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens of the Ontario Junior Hockey League in 2022-23.
