Pair of events focusing on forests

SHELBURNE FALLS — The Woodlands Partnership of Northwest Massachusetts invites residents to learn about forests at two events.

First, the partnership will host a webinar on how forests grow on Thursday, June 12, from noon to 1 p.m. Guest speaker Tom Worthley, a professor of forestry with the University of Connecticut, will discuss forest ecology, including factors influencing tree growth and forest biomass, changes in forests over time and ecosystem services that are provided by forests. Register at tinyurl.com/d573y6nz.

Then, on Thursday, June 19, forester and author Russ Richardson will lead an in-person workshop on growing, propagating and caring for medicinal and culinary plants and other non-timber forest products on private woodlands. The event will be held at the Shelburne-Buckland Community Center, 53 Main St., from 6 to 8 p.m.

Ashfield seeks input while crafting Open Space and Recreation Plan

ASHFIELD — Residents are invited to give input on what they think the town should prioritize as it begins updating its Open Space and Recreation Plan.

The town is asking residents to complete a survey on how town land should be used and preserved, as well as what types of recreational programs should be offered. The town’s current Open Space and Recreation Plan was last updated in 2018.

The survey can be found at bit.ly/ashfieldopen.
