Bulletin Board: 44th Annual Montague Mug Race Kicks Off Aug. 16

The 44th Montague Mug Race is right around the corner, with signups ongoing for the race which is scheduled for Aug. 16.

The race is 5.5 miles with a 2 mile mini run/walk option as well. The race begins at Montague Center Common at 8:30 a.m. with the 2 mile race kicking off at 8:35 a.m. Both races finish at the ball field on Station Street. All proceeds from the race benefit the Montague Fire Association and Montague Church. Pewter Mugs are awarded to the top male and female finisher in each age group.

Basketball

The DRIVE League kicked off on Tuesday at Greenfield High School, with Greenfield taking down Narragansett, 59-57, in a boys varsity game behind 38 points from Grayson Thomas and eight points from Gavin Arsenault. John Lyles scored 16 points and Max Kauffman added 14 points in the loss. 

The second game of the night saw Brattleboro beat Mohawk Trail, 73-29, behind 18 points from Hudson Smith and 10 points from Dawson Wheeler. Noah Sprague led Mohawk with eight points. 

After, Keene took down Hadley, 85-39, with Kasen Abbott leading the charge with 32 points and Jamal Stanley adding 17 points. Tucker Russell scored 10 points and Harry West added eight points for Hadley. 

The final game saw Frontier beat Smith Vocational, 60-33, with Alex Ellis scoring 11 points and Max Millette adding 10 points for the Redhawks. Dom Nueves scored 10 points for Smith.

Descavich Plumbing 3, Triton Automotive 1 — Sammi Suhl and Lillie Hubert each recorded a hit and an RBI, Natalie Placiano drove in a run, Zoey Thurber hit safely and Charlie Lovett got the win in the circle in Descavich’s GGSL playoff win on Monday. 

Tiana Moise Valdez and Clara Behan each tallied a hit for Triton. 

Gilmore & Farrell Insurance 10, Camelot Carpet Cleaners 6 — Aurora Reynolds doubled twice, singled and drove in three, Rian Farrell doubled in three runs and Harper Kingsbury homered and singled in Gilmore’s playoff win Monday. 

Amy VanDoren tripled and drove in four runs while Hailey Sadler and Hayden Sadler each had two hits in the loss. 

Golf

Crumpin-Fox

Lisa Sullivan and Corky Sysun shot the low gross of 38 to take first in the Crumpin-Fox Women’s League this past week. 

Brooke Fernandez and Jill Waldron tied with the pairs of Lori Walters and Whitney Robbins and Sam Smith and Amanda Larson for second (40). 

Jess Lapachinski and Raye Young carded the low net (32) followed by Sue O’Connor and Nancy Robie (34). Linda Haskell won closest to the pin on No. 3 (33 feet, three inches) and Waldron won on No. 9 (21-4). 

CCG results

Diane Carme, Mary McNally, Pat Coffin, Tami Gaylor and Anne Schwartzman won with a score of 34 after a match of cards to take first in the Monday  Night Ladies League at Country Club of Greenfield. 

Angie Berquist, Karen Zerneri, Bobbee Low, Samantha Smith and Elaine Mount tied with Elaine Goodhind, Sally Bernard, Barb Morris, Lora Gross and Anne Lyman for second.
