TURNERS FALLS — The Fifth Street Bridge over the canal, otherwise known as the Green Bridge, will be closed on Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for crews to perform repairs, the state Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced Monday.

Traffic will be detoured across the Turners Falls-Gill Bridge to Route 2, and back to Route 2A on the Greenfield side of the bridge.

Signs and messaging will be in place to guide drivers. MassDOT advises that drivers traveling through the affected area should expect delays, reduce speed and use caution.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
