July 19: ‘The Care & Keeping of Flowers’

GREENFIELD — Just Roots community farm at 43 Glenbrook Drive will offer “The Care & Keeping of Flowers,” a workshop led by Ferron Dooley Fairchild of Fernie Floral, on Saturday, July 19, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The workshop will cover the fundamentals of harvesting flowers and crafting floral designs. Participants will learn post-harvest care methods to extend a flower’s beauty, as well as enjoy hands-on bouquet-making and design instruction while crafting arrangements to take home. All supplies will be provided.

Register in advance at bit.ly/carekeepflowers. The cost is $50, though there are two spots available at a reduced price. The program will be limited to 20 participants.

Radio host to lead ‘Bob Dylan and the Band’ program

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Public Library welcomes music historian and Washington D.C. radio host Craig Harris for his presentation, “Bob Dylan and the Band,” on Wednesday, July 16, at 6 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room.

Based on his ninth book, “Last Waltz: The Full Story of the Band,” Harris uses recordings, video and stories to trace the quintet’s history.

Harris has appeared onstage with many artists, including Greg Brown, Jonathan Edwards and Los Texmaniacs. The Craig Harris Show airs on WAMU-FM/Bluegrass Country Radio.

Drone & Remote Control Car Obstacle Course coming to library

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Public Library will team up with the Greenfield Police Department for a Drone & Remote Control Car Obstacle Course at the library on Saturday, July 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Police Department will help set up a test course to show the public how to fly one of the department’s drones. Participants will work with department pilots to operate the drones, giving people a taste of the useful tool.

Inside the library, other participants can navigate a spooky, book-themed course using remote control cars. Tied to the Summer Reading Program, participants will visit some of the locations on the Camp Readmore Map, including the Wicked Woods, the Thundering Sea and others. Prizes will be awarded for the fastest times, best navigation and the most creative driver.

This program is free, but space is limited and advance registration is required. An adult is required to be present with children under age 16.

Greenfield student on St. Lawrence dean’s list

CANTON, N.Y. — Greenfield resident Paige V. Bernier, in her junior year at St. Lawrence University and while studying abroad in London, England, was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester.

The communications major is the daughter of Kerry Larabee and the late Marc Bernier.
