It would’ve been easy for the Greenfield Post 81 Senior American Legion team to call it a summer. With one game remaining in their season on Wednesday night, Post 81 was already eliminated from postseason consideration with a lengthy trip to Chicopee to play Aldenville Post 337 at Szot Park on tap.

Neither team was headed to the district playoffs, but Greenfield closed out its 2025 campaign in fine fashion with a dominant win. Post 81 rode the pitching of Caleb Thomas, who struck out 10 in a complete-game five-hitter as the visitors cruised to a 10-1 victory in a District 3 Senior Division contest.

“The kids played really well,” Post 81 coach Alex Siano said. “They were engaged and played with a lot of energy. It was a good way to go out, especially for Logan Moore and Caleb Thomas in their last game. I was glad to be a part of it.”

Greenfield, which finished its summer season 5-8 overall, got off to a strong start in the first inning with a pair of runs. Jackson Campbell, who had three hits on the night, drove in Conner Bergeron with an RBI single, and Moore also scored on the play due to an error to make it 2-0.

Aldenville (4-8) cut the deficit in half with a run in the home half of the first, but Greenfield snatched control in the fourth inning thanks to a wild play. With Campbell on second base after a double, Shawn Baumann reached on an error that kicked off what amounted to a “little league home run” as another error on a throw to the plate to try and get Campbell went out of plate. Both runs scored to make it 4-1.

That held into the top of the sixth, when Post 81 opened things up with three runs. Luca Siano roped a two-run double to spark the charge, and Greenfield tacked on three more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Campbell reached base all four times and had three hits, including a double, and an RBI. Siano, Ben Caron, Bergeron (who reached base four times), Moore and Baumann all hit safely, and Greg King also reached base and stole a pair of bags.
