HS Roundup: Pioneer, Franklin Tech girls soccer play to scoreless draw (PHOTOS)

It was a defensive battle between the Pioneer and Franklin Tech girls soccer teams on Wednesday in Northfield.
Despite some scoring chances — the Panthers hit the post twice in the second half — neither team was able to produce a goal over the 80-minute contest, leading to a 0-0 Bi-County tie.
Shaylee Martin made five saves for the Eagles after coming on in relief in net midway through the first half while Kyler McClelland stopped two shots for Pioneer.
Greenfield 8, Pathfinder 2 — It took Tayler Bergeron just under 30 minutes to record a hat trick for the Green Wave before Elderina Cecunjanin took over by scoring once before the halftime whistle and three times in the final 40 minutes of play. That scoring output allowed Greenfield to roll to a Bi-County League home win on Wednesday.
Sarah McCloud added a goal in the second half for the Wave while Zephyr Jetzon (2), Bergeron (2) and Suhani Patel provided the assists.
Annie Cobileanschi made five saves in the winning effort.
Frontier 7, Mahar 0 — The Redhawks came out firing on all cylinders, lighting up the scoreboard five times in the opening 40 minutes to cruise to a Moriarty League victory at Herlihy Park in Whately on Wednesday.
Gus Radner and Henry Pleasant each scored once in the first half and once in the second half while Sam Bakare, Ian Paciorek and Grayden Gifford found the back of the net in the first half for Frontier. Radner, Pleasant, Eric Larsson and TJ Donovan (2) provided the assists while Jack Cusson stopped all four shots he faced in goal.

SICS 3, Turners 2 — The Bulldogs tallied twice in the second half to defeat the Thunder in Springfield on Wednesday.

Madi Liimatainen put down three kills and nine aces while making a dig, Maddie Haight tallied one kill, two aces and six assists, Maddie Dietz finished with seven aces and three digs while Marilyn Abarua had five aces, one kill and one dig for Turners.
Shelby O’Leary recorded nine digs and two kills while Jenna Petrowicz (three aces, three kills, two blocks), Sarah Beckwith (four kills, two digs), Emma Petersen (two aces, three kills, two digs) and Madison Pettingill (four aces, one kill, one dig, two blocks) played well for Franklin Tech.
Westfield 3, Frontier 1 — Abigail Hernandez recorded 17 kills and two aces for the Redhawks, which fell to the Bombers 25-23, 25-22, 24-26, 25-20 in a tightly-contested match in Westfield on Wednesday.
Olivia Machon tallied six kills, three aces and 13 digs, Bailey Martin and Arianna Miller each put down four kills while Parrish Stilla dished 25 assists for Frontier.
Mahar 3, Pioneer 0 — The Senators opened their season on the right foot, traveling to Northfield and walking away with a 25-19, 25-22, 25-16 sweep over the Panthers.
Abbie Ray (two kills, three aces, four blocks), Jacobia Tyminski (two kills, five digs, three aces), Sophia Wood (three assists, one kill, one ace) and Emma Strong (four digs, two aces) played well for Pioneer.
Hampshire 1, Franklin Tech 1 — Kenzie Sourdiffe-Phelps had the lone tally for the Eagles, which drew with the Raiders in County League action on Wednesday in Turners.
Abi Dobias provided the assist on Sourdiffe’s goal. Madison Markwell made three saves for Franklin Tech.
Frontier 153, Pioneer 181 — Ryan Cetto fired a 34 to finish as the match medalist while Cam Skiffington shot a 37, leading the Redhawks past the Panthers at Cherry Hill Golf Course on Wednesday.
Porter Hall (40) and Jacob Cornelison (42) also scored for Frontier in the victory while Brayden Thayer (38), Ben Werner (43), Ethan Mauthe (48) and Cam Curtis (52) scored for Pioneer.
Hampshire 173, Mohawk Trail 207 — Phineas Tuttman shot a team-low 46 for the Warriors in a loss to the Raiders on Wednesday at Beaver Brook Golf Club.
Conner Bergeron (51), Douglas Wilcox (54) and Logan Moore (56) rounded out the scoring for Mohawk Trail.

Mahar 26, St. Mary’s 31 — Aiden Drake took 14th overall (24 minutes, 10 seconds) while Solomon Burke placed 15th (24:33) for the Senators, which picked up a pair of wins at Stanley Park in Westfield on Wednesday.
