Mik Muller: Stand out on Wisdom Way bridge

I joined the stand out on Wisdom Way bridge over I-91 on Friday, April 25, one of the coordinated stand outs on every I-91 overpass in Massachusetts, and have this to report.

From 4 to 6 p.m. I stood with about 20 total people on the northbound overpass, while there was about 40 standing on the southbound overpass. There were a plethora of American flags, as well as many signs denouncing various aspects of the current administration.

We waved at every car and truck that came along. I would imagine at least 2,000 vehicles drove under our side. Though we didn’t keep a counter, I’d guess at least 25% of those vehicles responded back. Of that group, the vast majority were positive, ranging from a lazy hand-on-wheel thumb up, all the way to honking and flashing lights while every occupant shouted and waved from every window and sunroof. Actually, there were a lot of those. Way more than the (no kidding) 24 vehicles that either gave us the finger or a thumb down. And the majority of those were pickups. Thankfully, there were more thumbs up from pickups than down, so we felt that was good. Also, if a semitruck reacted at all, it was air horn honking and thumbs up. Also some luxury buses.

So, that’s a bit of a poll, in a way. While about 75% of the traffic was indifferent, those that weren’t were about 99% in support of our efforts. Some wildly so.

Good morning, America!
