Deborah Shriver: Tim Hilchey delivers for Deerfield

I write in enthusiastic support of Tim Hilchey for re-election to the Deerfield Selectboard. For Tim, no job is too small or too big. He commits himself to both kinds of work in his role as a Selectboard member and in so doing advances the town’s economic health.

In 2023, when town roads were severely damaged by storms, Tim’s teamwork with our state legislators helped secure $1.58 million to fund repair costs that far exceeded our annual Highway Department budget.

Tim advocated at both the state and federal levels to obtain almost $3 million in funds for the Leary Parking Lot and EV Charger project.

Tim picked up his hammer and saw and replaced the kitchen floor in the temporary library space at the former Congregational Church because he thought the bids to do the work came in too high. Having worked in construction earlier in his life, his efforts saved the town many thousands of dollars in the process.

Tim has been successful in bringing outside funds to Deerfield because he willingly travels to meetings with state and federal officials to advocate for our community’s needs. His journalism background trained him to research and unearth places where money is available and to write convincing applications to get it.

Tim has a long record of obtaining money for important needs without added costs to taxpayers. That is fiscal responsibility in action!

I trust Tim Hilchey because he has proven himself to be an effective steward of Deerfield’s finances in countless ways. He has earned our votes for re-election on Monday, May 5.
