I heard the North Main Street railroad overpass bridge in South Deerfield was going to be replaced this summer starting when the kids got out of school.

Now I hear there is another project that the town supposedly needs to do so this has been put off or is it canceled indefinitely?

With increased volume of traffic down our street, it serves as a dangerous cut-way for buses, more cars, semis and everybody. There is no traffic monitoring by the police and lots of back-ups.

This bridge was condemned by MassDOT as of last year and was suppose to be fixed in the 1980s. Would you like a thousand vehicles driving by your house every day? Never mind the noise, the smell and traffic is backed up making it difficult for us homeowners especially those with asthma, COPD, polyps, etc. Also very dangerous for kids and pets.

Then I hear of water main breaks on North Hillside and Hillside roads and other detours the town wants you to use. What is the problem? Is the railroad company not willing to pay their share of the cost? Amtrak flies by our houses and laying on the horn when they don’t even have a stop in South Deerfield? Sometimes they go by 10 times a day and right near the grammar school’s playground.

The Selectboard needs to do something to get this bridge fixed. Would you enjoy living in our area? This stinks!
