“Stand for something, or fall for anything.”
And what is that “something “today?
My parents were born when women initially secured the right to vote after many marches, protests and sacrifices. The right to vote for Black women took until the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
Marching, protesting, and citizen pressure helped end the quagmire in Southeast Asia (Vietnam War), which I witnessed firsthand.
With MLK Jr.’s civil rights movement changes were made because of the “people ” pushing hard against existing policies. This is not ancient history, Google it!
Today’s “something” is standing up to Donald Trump’s attempt to dismantle the constitutional separation of powers and establish the executive branch as the sole arbiter directing the nation’s course. Our American Revolution was to oust an all powerful king and create a governmental system by the people and for the people. (spoiler alert: we are the people).
Greed, excessive wealth, human nature and desire for power and control have brought us back 250 years to fighting for independence from an authoritarian ruler. You wanna live by the commands of a king or have a voice in how your country operates?
Trump is purposely destroying what the Founding Fathers envisioned after British rule was defeated. We have now come full circle to fighting against authoritarianism on our soil. Are you a patriot of the constitutional republic of the United States or complicit to its downfall?
