In the Nov. 5 election, Kamala Harris is clearly and indisputably the best candidate for president of the United States. Her character, qualifications and experience, and her accomplishments prove that she is an outstanding candidate who will be a great president.

At the recent Democratic National Convention, President Joe Biden spoke of Harris’ “enormous integrity.” That integrity is an important part of her exceptional character, which can be seen not only in her honesty in dealing with others, but also in the way that she truly cares about other people regardless of their gender, their color, their national origin, their status in society, or their sexual preference.

It is her compassion for others that causes her to search for solutions to gun violence, to commit to lowering prices on medication, to find ways to make child care affordable, to develop strategies to deal with the housing crisis, and to campaign for women’s health independence. Harris really cares about people like you and me. She cares about America’s middle class, and also constantly studies ways to lift the poor and disadvantaged out of a life of poverty.

It is that strength of character, her high values and morality, which will go into every single decision that she makes as president.

In addition to her strong character and values, Harris is one of the most experienced and qualified people to ever to run for president. In California, the fifth largest economy in the world, she was first elected district attorney, serving for seven years. She was tough on crime, clearing 27 of 74 backlogged homicide cases in her first six months. She became well known for prosecuting domestic violence perpetrators, child abusers, and sex traffickers. She also pushed for higher bail for criminal defendants involved in gun-related cases.

She received praise for her focus not only on prosecuting criminals, but also on prevention of crime. She promoted successful diversion programs for young people facing first-time nonviolent drug charges, providing supervised education, job training courses, therapy sessions, and life skills classes. In addition, she created a Hate Crimes Unit, protecting LGBTQ children and teens in school.

Harris next served seven years as California’s attorney general. She was renowned for advocating for programs that benefited regular people, especially the poor and middle class. She fought some of the nation’s biggest banks over fraudulent and unethical practices, and eventually earned a $25 billion settlement. She fought against for-profit colleges and their predatory practices.

She supported marriage equality nationwide. She worked to require insurers to cover reproductive health services. She fought for consumer privacy by demanding that tech companies inform users of what private information they were collecting and sharing. She prosecuted transnational gangs who trafficked in guns, drugs, and human beings.

After her experience as California’s top law officer, Harris was elected to the U.S Senate. There she developed a reputation as a tough questioner in Senate committees and in Supreme Court nomination hearings. In the Senate she advocated for stricter gun control laws, the Dream Act, providing due process for immigrants, federal legalization of marijuana, and reforms to health care and taxation. She served on the Intelligence, Judiciary and Homeland Security committees, experiences taht will be important as president.

As vice president, Harris not only held meetings with more than 150 world leaders, but also was one of President Biden’s chief advisers. She was generally the last person in the room, lending her voice and ideas, in every major decision.

As a result, she shares a great deal of the credit for so many of the Biden-Harris administration’s achievements, including the American Rescue Plan, the Safer Communities Act, The Infrastructure Act, the Inflation Reduction Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, the Clean Energy Program, the expansion of the Affordable Care Act, record-breaking sustained job growth and unemployment, the expansion of SNAP benefits for low-income citizens, Gun Violence Prevention legislation, debt relief legislation, raising standards for law enforcement agencies, helping veterans from effects of burn pits, protection of marriage for LGBTQ and interracial couples, reforms to safeguard elections, and the reestablishment of respect and cooperation from our world allies.

The choice this election is undeniable. Kamala Harris, by virtue of her character, her qualifications and experience, and her accomplishments, is an extraordinary presidential candidate who deserves your support and your vote.
