GREENFIELD — Girl Scout Troops 40566 and 65201 are holding their Ski, Snowboard and Skate Sale this weekend, ushering in the 70th year of the tradition.

Patrons can visit the Episcopal Church of Saints James and Andrew at 8 Church St. on Friday, Dec. 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon to shop a variety of new and used winter sports equipment. Consignment items will also be accepted on Thursday, Dec. 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. only.

The Ski, Snowboard and Skate Sale has been around for seven decades, having been passed down from one troop to another to raise money for Girl Scouts programming. This year, Troops 40566 and 65201 of central and western Massachusetts are fundraising for an international travel opportunity.

“This is the oldest benefit ski sale for Girl Scouts in the country,” said Tina Crocker, leader of Bernardston Girl Scout Troop 40566, which was established in 2004. “We have all kinds of winter equipment, which can be as unusual as a toboggan, to snowshoes, and any of the clothing and paraphernalia that comes with it.”

More than 1,500 items will be available to buy, including Alpine skis and boots, snowboards and boots, twin tips, cross-country skiing equipment, snowshoes, hockey and figure skates, jackets, goggles, gloves and helmets. Credit cards will be accepted, with a $10 minimum.

Paul Hake, a parent volunteer for the sale, said the sale is typically quite popular and provides an opportunity for the Girl Scouts to chip in with running the event.

“Usually there’s a line out the door because everyone knows about it and it’s been going on for so long,” Hake said. “The Girl Scouts will be selling drinks and snacks, and helping with setup each day.”
