CONWAY — Residents are invited to Town Hall at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, for a community forum regarding the decommissioning of streetlights in town.
The Selectboard and Sustainability Committee are hosting the event, as the latter has been tasked with reviewing the 67 streetlights in town and making recommendations on whether some could be decommissioned. Poles with yellow ribbons have been identified as ones that could potentially be removed.
The event comes as the town has been following in the footsteps of Shelburne’s streetlight study, which led to a $75,000 appropriation at the 2023 Annual Town Meeting to purchase the lights from Eversource and replace them with low-wattage LEDs.
Conway’s goal is slightly different, as Selectboard Chair Chris Waldo previously said the goal is to reduce light pollution and find more energy-efficient fixtures.
DEERFIELD — The Deerfield Recreation Department’s annual Valentine’s Day luminary event is back this year, with the streets of Deerfield expected to be lit up on Friday, Feb. 14, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Folks are asked to fill heart cutout bags or milk jugs with sand and votive lights, then place them on their driveways or walkways. Residents can also decorate their door and yard with hearts and red lights.
Heart cutout bags and votive candles are available from the Recreation Department, with 10 bags and 10 tea lights available for $10. To order bags and arrange for pickup, call 413-665-1400, ext. 107 or email recdept@town.deerfield.ma.us.
