GREENFIELD — United Way of the Franklin & Hampshire Region is wrapping up its annual diaper drive, which formally ends on June 30.
The nonprofit has partnered with 51 area businesses, organizations and municipalities to set up locations where people can drop off donations of diapers that will be distributed to 14 community partners via its diaper bank.
“We’re hoping to collect 40,000 diapers,” Program Director Jenny Coeur said. “It’s been a really great variety of spots.”
The diaper drive has been held in Franklin County since 2014 and in Hampshire County since 2015. Coeur said it can be difficult to determine the quantity of diapers collected until the drive finishes, “but we’ve heard from many locations that their collection boxes are full, and we’ve had a good stream of online donations as well.”
Coeur mentioned a collection event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 28, at Stop & Shop, located at 89 French King Highway in Greenfield.
Donations can be made online anytime via the United Way of the Franklin & Hampshire Region’s Amazon Wish List. More information is available at uw-fh.org/diaper-drive, by calling 413-584-3962, ext. 102, or by emailing info@uw-fh.org. United Way also accepts monetary donations made online at tinyurl.com/mrxrsz8k and by check. The drive’s presenting sponsor, Greenfield Savings Bank, is matching all monetary donations up to $10,000.
“We actually exceeded expectations last year,” Coeur reflected. “We had just a really great team effort.”
United Way encourages donors to contribute larger diaper sizes for children — specifically sizes 4, 5 and 6 — because they are often more difficult to find at local pantries. Pull-up training pants are also needed.
