Aug. 25: Meet and greet with master gardeners

SHELBURNE FALLS — The Western Massachusetts Master Gardener Association is looking for new members. The gardeners will hold a meet and greet with their Class of 2025 Committee on Sunday, Aug. 25, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Arms Library.

The gardeners will provide an overview of the Western Massachusetts Master Gardener Association, what the gardeners do and their various projects, as well as what the training consists of and what the association is looking for in master gardener applicants.

Eagles to host chicken barbecue

SHELBURNE FALLS — The Fraternal Order of Eagles is taking reservations for its chicken barbecue, which will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, from noon to 1 p.m. at 52 State St.

For $20, guests will receive half a chicken, a baked potato, coleslaw, a roll and corn. For reservations, call 413-625-2593.

BUCKLAND — The Buckland Historical Society will host open houses at the Wilder Homestead, located at 129 Route 112, and at its museum, located at 20 Upper St., on Sunday, Aug. 25, from 2 to 4 p.m.

The Wilder Homestead will be open for tours showcasing the furnished 1795 saltbox home, the circa 1798 English barn currently being restored and the circa 1820 shoemaker shop, where boots could be bartered for with bushels of apples, cords of wood, or in one case, the work of digging a grave. The museum will display town records and artifacts related to clothing, education and industries such as weaving and shoemaking.
