On Aug. 12, the Selectboard signed a proclamation celebrating Herland and thanking him for his hours of service to the town. Herland’s Eagle Scout project involved building a ramp and boardwalk for Sanderson Academy’s outdoor classroom.

“In earning this high rank, Henry Herland joins an elite and honorable fraternity of achievers that counts among its members an extraordinary number of this nation’s greatest leaders in business, government, education and other sectors of society, and it is fitting that the town of Ashfield should recognize Mr. Herland for his volunteerism, his hard work and his dedication to the highest ideals of public service,” the proclamation reads.
