New tennis courts to be celebrated with ribbon cutting

ASHFIELD — A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 8, to celebrate the opening of Ashfield’s new tennis courts at Belding Memorial Park.

Members of the public are invited to join the Selectboard, Park Commission and other town officials for the grand opening celebration at noon at the courts on Main Street.

The new courts were paid for using a combination of state grants, federal funding and donations.

Panel on fighting hate speech set for June 12

SHELBURNE FALLS — The Mohawk Trail and Hawlemont Regional school districts are inviting residents to a community discussion on the effects of hate speech.

Led by facilitators from the Collaborative for Educational Services, participants will discuss the impacts of hate speech in school environments, and how to combat bias and hate. The workshop will be held Thursday, June 12, at 5:30 p.m. at the Shelburne-Buckland Community Center, located at 53 Main St.

A light dinner and child care will be provided. Participants are encouraged to register in advance at tinyurl.com/58DBUY4B.

Meet working oxen at Fabric of Life

SHELBURNE — Fabric of Life at 80 Bassett Road will host a working oxen demonstration on Saturday, June 14.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., community members can meet some animals and their handlers, and learn why oxen were such an important part of life on the farm throughout New England’s agricultural history. Lunch will be served.

Square dance set for June 14

HEATH — The Heath Agricultural Society will hold a square dance fundraiser on Saturday, June 14, at 7 p.m. in the cattle barn at the Heath Fairgrounds.

Doug Wilkins will be calling and music will be provided by the Falltown String Band. There will be a $5 charge at the door. There will be refreshments, Heath Fair swag for sale and raffle baskets. There will also be information on how to help and/or join the Heath Agricultural Society.
