Hey, you won the election. Donald Trump is president again, and Republicans control the House and the Senate. In addition, the Supreme Court has a conservative majority. But did you really want what has happened since Trump was inaugurated? Do you like the appointment to the president’s cabinet of people with no expertise but plenty of blind loyalty to Trump? Do you support the chaotic cuts to federal organizations, the thoughtless firings, and the sheer incompetence of the process? Are you OK with undermining the rule of law, attacking lawyers and judges, focusing on retribution instead of developing policies that will improve the lives of all Americans? How about the cruel and illegal treatment of immigrants? Or the loss of faith with our allies? Should our president be kissing up to a dictator like Vladimir Putin? Is it a good idea to increase costs and anger our closest trading partners with mindless and unnecessary tariffs? Does the United States really need to control Greenland and the Panama Canal? Should Canada really become the 51st state?

Babette Wils of Bigfoot Food Forest in Montague initially obtained sheep for land management and soil improvement. “We prefer to have sheep, rather than machinery, mow our orchard,” said Wils. “Our farm is very quiet; the only machines we use are electric hand tools. The noisiest thing here is the dog barking, or occasionally a chainsaw when we cut down small trees for mushroom logs.” (One of the many things going on at Bigfoot is mushroom cultivation.)

As a voter who has consistently supported John F. Merrigan in past elections, I was surprised by his recent column on the Hope Street housing referendum. While I appreciate his engagement in civic discussion, his mention of his title — register of probate — in the piece raises ethical concerns. Furthermore, the reference of his record on the opioid epidemic, while commendable, has nothing to do with the issue at hand.

What’s a country to do when a penny isn’t worth a red cent anymore? Stop minting them, apparently.
When a U.S. senator from Alabama calls immigrants “inner-city rats,” that’s hate. When a U.S. congressman from Georgia suggests that migrants should be dropped from helicopters, that’s hate. When a U.S. president refers to Democrats as “vermin,” “scum,” “poison,” “crooked,” “misfits,” “communists,” “Marxists,” “low IQ,” “stupid,” “radical left lunatics,” “losers,” and claims they “hate America,” are “trying to destroy America,” and are “a threat to democracy” — that, unmistakably, is hate.

Well Suited could very well become your favorite new band. Although the Montague-based group formed in 2010, they have a new lineup and a sound that's quite different from when they started in their teens. Currently, they are a six-piece band consisting of Dylan Bocon on vocals, Mackae Freeland and Mike Parker on guitars, Jake Lewis on bass, and brothers Ben and Corban Mailloux on drums and saxophone, respectively. The group, who recently released the EP "Five More Minutes," plays a unique brand of Americana that is made for dancing and singing along.
