AMHERST — UMass men’s basketball head coach Frank Martin landed a pair of commitments on Wednesday, as forwards Dimitri Clerc and Charles Outlaw – former junior college players – transferred to UMass out of the portal. That now makes four Minutemen transfers coming in (joining K’Jei Parker and Donovan Brown), and all four have either been from JUCO or Division 2.
Clerc – the No. 17 ranked player on JUCO Recruiting’s top 100 list – played at Pensacola State College in Florida, and was one of two players on the roster to start in every single game last year. The 6-foot-9 native of Geneva, Switzerland averaged 11 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, shooting 59 percent from the field and 51 percent from the free throw line. Clerc had a season-high 26 points against Coastal Alabama.
With several years of eligibility remaining, the junior has room to grow during his time in Amherst should he play out the rest of his career there.
Outlaw has basketball in his blood, literally. His father, Bo Outlaw, played 15 seasons in the NBA and finished in the top 10 in Defensive Player of the Year voting three times. Charles Outlaw just completed his sophomore season at Trinity Valley Community College in his home state of Texas – where he averaged 4.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. He began his collegiate career at Mineral Area College, averaging 4.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest.
The 6-foot-9 forward shot 52 percent or less from the line in his two seasons in college.
With the additions of Outlaw and Clerc, the UMass roster now consists of Outlaw (transfer), Clerc (transfer), Donovan Brown (transfer), K’Jei Parker (transfer), Danny Carbuccia (freshman), Jayden Ndjigue (junior), Daniel Hankins-Sanford (senior), Bilal Osman (freshman) and Luka Damjanac (sophomore).
In other news, Rahsool Diggins entered the transfer portal on Thursday afternoon. The senior averaged nearly 17 points per game for UMass, though he is currently waiting to hear from the NCAA on if he will be granted another year of eligibility. If he does, Diggins will likely head to a Power 4 school or look to play closer to his home city of Philadelphia, Pa.
That means the Minutemen roster currently holds nine players. Martin still has plenty of work left to do to round out his 2025-26 team as UMass heads to the Mid-American Conference.
