I am writing in response to the April 14 letter titled “Senior Center Concerns.” I was surprised by the letter writer’s claim that the center is underused and uninviting, as that has not been my experience at all.
The Senior Center offers a vibrant and welcoming environment with a wide range of activities and resources for older adults. A comprehensive 12-page monthly newsletter outlines the daily programs and includes advertisements for services tailored to seniors.
Currently, there are 17 different programs and activities offered Monday through Friday. these include blood pressure clinics, technology assistance, QiGong, Pilates, yoga, movie matinees, foot care, support groups, and much more. Our dedicated director and activities coordinator also lead 12 exercises each week, ensuring that there’s something for everyone regardless of fitness level.
In addition, the center hosts montly musical performances from groups such as Eventide Singers, Dusti Dufraine, and the Farley String Band. It also serves daily lunches with anywhere from 12 to 40 people participating each day.
The center regularly offers special events and services such as basket weaving, paper crafts, quilling, knitting lessons, free tax help, and legal advice sessions like “Ask the Lawyer.”
I encourage the letter writer — and anyone who may be unfamiliar with all the center has to offer — to visit and experience it firsthand. It’s a warm, active and supportive space that truly enriches the lives of those who attend.
